Digital Public Infrasructure (DPI)
Digital Public Infrastructure Initiatives
NITA is actively pursuing DPI initiatives on two fronts: DPI within Government (DPI-G) and DPI on the National Front (DPI-N).
DPI-G (Digital Public Infrastructure - Government)
This initiative focuses on DPI systems used across government. Platforms, applications, and services that serve multiple agencies are deployed once and shared. This is considered a shared service model.
Some of the deployed DPI-G systems include:
- GIFMIS: For financial services across government
- GHANEPS: For procurement across government
- Smart Workplace: A virtual office platform that automates workflows like memos, leave, correspondence, and document management. It includes email, conferencing via Teams, and more.
DPI-N (Digital Public Infrastructure - National)
This initiative focuses on national-level platforms used by government, businesses, citizens, and development partners. DPI-N emphasizes platform and data reuse and often involves public-private collaboration.
Some of the deployed DPI-N platforms include:
- National ID System: A single source of identification for nationals and residents, enabling identity verification across public and private systems.
- Payment Interoperability: Two exchanges — one for traditional banks and one for mobile money — interconnected to allow seamless fund transfers and promote financial inclusion.
Data Exchange Hub (Data Interoperability)
Effective data exchange is the missing link in Ghana’s digitalization. A national data exchange hub will transform planning, decision-making, and innovation.
The government plans to deploy this as a DPI-N in partnership with the private sector. It will support real-time, accurate, and seamless data sharing across both public and private sectors.
